“If a Doula were a drug,
it would be unethical not to use it.”

Walking with women through pregnancy, birth & beyond

Whether expecting a first baby or subsequent births, as a pregnant woman approaching labour and motherhood your greatest need is to feel safe and confident.

Since Ancient Greek times Doula’s or ‘labour coaches’ have helped women world-wide in achieving this.  Acting as birth assistants, this physical and emotional nurturing has been proven to increase maternal and fetal health, reduce Caeseraan section rates, shorten labour and decrease need for drugs (due to lessened pain and stress).

We walk with you through the intensely rewarding and challenging journey of childbirth, remembering that ‘mothering the mother’ (and partner/support person) has far-reaching benefits, even beyond the birthing suite. Women who are cared for in labour are found to be more apt to care for their children well, and surely these outcomes are worth striving for.

*Our chosen Charity is the Edna Adan Hospital (healthcare from women and children) in Somaliland, East Africa. Here, after the health care system was utterly destroyed by civil war, they have the highest rate of maternal and infant mortality in the world. It is a goal of the Hospital to train fully-qualified health care professionals and importantly, to fight the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) which is endemic throughout this region. We would like to thank them for allowing us to share their beautiful logo.

“Thank you so much for being the most amazing doula imaginable. During my pregnancy you geared me up for birth and life with a newborn. Your words of wisdom came back to me during the trying times, and really helped me to maintain the strength required. I felt so easy around you. You are very nurturing, loving, caring and supportive. I felt calm and safe about my upcoming labour largely due to the fact that I knew you were going to be there.”
